We Understand How the DDA Affects Housing Associations
The DRC recommends that disability is recognised and represented at all levels of an organisation, from the Board down. The DDA is not only about physical access to services. It is as much about attitude and changed practices and policies. Interestingly, the Chair of the Disability Rights Commission, Bert Massie, himself grew up in Housing Association accommodation and is also now a Board member of a Housing Association!
The duty to make reasonable adjustments under the DDA is an evolving duty, therefore it makes sense to anticipate and plan to meet the needs of disabled tenants and employees

D.O.T.S. can advise on policies related to employment practice, (for example recruitment), monitoring provision of services (for example user surveys or mystery shopper audits), and can provide Training on disability equality issues to managers, employees, or tenant panels.
We carry out Access Audits, Customer Services Audits, and we advise on aids and adaptations to meet the needs of disabled tenants or employees.
We can provide Vocational Rehabilitation/ Return to Work Plans for employees who are disabled or have long-term health problems - physical or mental.
